Aspirin & Ibuprofen

So it seems, from reading the Angioma Alliance discussion mailing list that Aspirin and Ibuprofen are deadly for people with cavernomas. Something to do with blood thinning/thickening stuff.

Well gee thanks doctors for telling me about this one. Please tell me, why the fricking hell you call me in to see you to “check my progress” every god damn 3 months if you don’t even know the most basic stuff?

Sometimes they seem more concerned with what i weigh than helping me to reduce the chance of spontanious brain combustion.

Arghhh £$^$^&%^&%^

  1. Yeah, Aspirin thins the blood and I think makes it not clot so well, which can be good or bad for some things. Didn’t know that Ibuprofen had a similar effect, though :o

  2. Hi,

Yeah, my neurosurgeon just told me to stop taking asprin for the same reason. I’ve been seeing him for 7 years! In his defense, it wasn’t until I told him I was taking it on occasion that he came out and told me.

I checked out your MRI - how big is that (I couldn’t tell from the picture)? And which lobe is it in?

I’m going under the knife again in November to remove a 3cm cavernoma from my left frontal lobe - no seizures this time, just headaches, dizzy spells and some neuro damage so that the reflexes on my right side are stuffed up. Definitely no asprin for me, as a bleed could cause irriversible damage!

You’ve had a rough time of late, Roz, but you seem to be keeping it together with strength and gusto. Good for you.

    Take care,
    Lucy :-)

  3. Thanks for your reply Lucy.
My cavernoma is about 3cm and is in the right frontal lobe. It’s quite a difficult shape and is very far in towards the middle which is why they can’t operate on me.
Am suffering with quite a lot of seizures at the moment. Had another yesterday but I’m trying to just carry on as normal.
